On-chain, bitcoin trades as its wrappers.
Bitcoin has its own chain, but the bitcoin that DeFi lends against, settles with plus liquidates lives on other chains as wrapped tokens: WBTC, cbBTC, tBTC plus a growing family of staked variants. Those tokens trade in deep on-chain pools against ETH, stablecoins plus each other. That market is where an on-chain BTC position succeeds or fails.
Every one of the 84 pools behind this rate prices bitcoin through its wrapped representations, quoted against whatever those wrappers genuinely trade with in a given week. Wrapper-to-wrapper crosses matter more than they look: wherever they carry weight, they tie the composition back to bitcoin parity itself, so a single wrapper drifting from its peg shows up instead of hiding inside an average.
The result is a BTC/USD rate that answers the question a CEX ticker cannot: what is bitcoin worth in the market where your on-chain position actually settles?
84 active pools across 11 chains stand behind the published rate. Weighting follows live liquidity, so a venue's influence rises or falls with the depth it actually offers rather than with a fixed list. Every response also carries market depth plus volume from the latest block.
Who runs on this rate
On-chain credit markets
Lending protocols hold billions in wrapped-BTC collateral. Liquidations settle at the on-chain rate, so that is the rate the risk engine should be watching.
Perpetuals plus structured products
An index built from 84 pools on 11 chains is expensive to push around: moving it requires moving real liquidity across venues, not nudging one order book.
Risk plus treasury desks
Books that hold bitcoin exposure on-chain need a mark from the market where that exposure actually lives, with depth attached so position size is part of the picture.
Is wrapped bitcoin the same price as bitcoin?
Almost, almost always. Each wrapper is designed to be worth exactly one bitcoin, but its market price is set by trust in its bridge, custodian or mint mechanism. In practice WBTC, cbBTC plus tBTC each trade at their own small premium or discount. In stressed moments those gaps widen. Treating every wrapper as exactly bitcoin hides precisely the risk a wrapper carries.
This feed keeps that risk visible instead. The aggregate BTC/USD rate stays anchored to the whole wrapped-bitcoin market rather than to any single wrapper's peg, while dedicated parity pairs in the catalog measure individual wrappers against bitcoin directly.
